Myofascial Release
Myofascial release is a form of therapy used by Doctor Olsen for treatment of many soft tissue dysfunctions. Let’s first review a little anatomy:
Fascia is the soft tissue component of the connective tissue that provides support and protection for most structures within the human body, including muscle. This soft tissue can become restricted due to overuse, trauma, infectious agents, or inactivity, often resulting in pain, muscle tension, and corresponding diminished blood flow.
As in most tissue, irritation of fascia causes local inflammation. Chronic inflammation results in fibrosis, or thickening of the connective tissue. When fibrosis occurs around muscles the neighboring joints become restricted in there motion which can negatively impact the cartilage in the joint and accelerate degenerative joint disease.
Those that have seen Dr. Olsen can attest to his unique ability to feel on a patient’s body where this dysfunction of connective tissue around muscles is occuring. By using a technique called myofacial release Dr. Olsen causes a breaking of the connective tissue adhesions. After treatment there is a noticable effect in how a muscle can stretch and glide without being hindered. Combining this treatment with comfortable chiropractic adjustments allows for a longer more noticable difference in how you will feel.
